According to the Italian publication 1000 Cuori Rossoblu (h/t Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur are engaged in a transfer tussle with West Ham United to sign Mattias Svanberg at the end of this season. He has been one of the best performers for his side this campaign which seems to have put him on the others’ shortlist as well.

Svanberg will enter the final year of his current contract in the summer transfer window. That has alerted several clubs across Europe, with Tottenham and West Ham battling it out with each other right now. Everton, Fiorentina and Napoli are the other interested parties in the pursuit of signing him after this term.

I Rossoblu are likely to consider the Swede to be expendable for a profitable sale this summer. It is even stated that they will not sell him for a price tag of less than €20million in transfer fees despite the contract situation.

There is a need to bring in a midfield reinforcement this summer, considering we only brought in Rodrigo Bentancur last January. Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele all parted ways in the same window which means that we are lacking in depth at this moment.

While Lo Celso and Ndombele could return at the end of this term, one could ask whether they would have a future at N17 at all since Antonio Conte had allowed them to leave in the first place. Moreover, Harry Winks, who has struggled to get game time even with Oliver Skipp’s injury blow, could be subjected to interest from elsewhere.

As such, it would be wise if the North London side would look to potential targets to boost their midfield. We currently have only the Premier League to play for, which does give us some leeway, but that will not be the case after this summer. Our depth would seriously be questioned, which means that signings would have to be made after this season.

Svanberg could be one of the missing cogs in our team, looking at how he has orchestrated Bologna’s midfield throughout this campaign. After all, they are in contention to get into the top half of the league table, which is also down to his contributions. His minimum valuation is very reasonable as well, which should give us all the incentives to target him come this summer.

However, clubs like the Hammers would undoubtedly pose issues for us, considering how they are trying to step up a level under David Moyes. Since the Swedish star’s signature has attracted more attention from elsewhere as well, Fabio Paratici would be wise to use his Italian connections to the best use to influence a deal in this case- if possible.

A football enthusiast who is madly in love with the beautiful sport.
