Using our own House Beautiful x Hillarys collection we have created four unique looks that you can shop right now.
Window dressing is often considered a finishing touch by homeowners. But blinds and shutters can have a transformative effect in any room, creating an interesting focal point, diffusing natural light, and maintaining privacy.
'Shutters and blinds have their practical purposes for keeping your home warm, but they also work aesthetically to create a cosy space,' says House Beautiful Style & Interiors Director, Sarah Keady.
We designed our collection of blinds and shutters at Hillarys to be more than a finishing touch. And, with Hillarys celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, we've put together four shoppable looks using the House Beautiful x Hillarys collection as the star of the show.
This warm living room look belies the myth that dark walls should be offset with lighter tones.
The colour scheme was designed around the rich Breeze Russet roller blinds from Hillarys. 'This design is really directional, we are seeing lots of toasty tones at the moment including delicious shades of saffron, cinnamon and turmeric,' says Sarah, 'this is an accessible colour palette too, it pairs brilliantly with an otherwise neutral space.'
Natural materials were introduced in the Amara oak coffee table, a large jute rug from The Conran Shop (find similar at The White Company,) and the worn leather DFS sofa, and russet accents picked up in soft furnishings, like the terracotta throw by SCP (find similar at Heals,) and striped cushion by Amara. ‘This russet colour is ideal to inject some warmth to your home. It looks great against darker, dramatic colours.’
This calming kitchen corner is bathed in soft sunlight, and surrounded by white panelled walls and wooden flooring. 'Although you might want to choose a neutral blind to blend in with your surroundings, this design shows how plain means far from boring,' says Sarah. 'The subtle pattern diffuses the light and creates a tactile backdrop to your room – it creates just the right amount of interest without dominating your space.'
The focus for this breakfast nook was on mixing natural textures and materials. The brilliant white marble Knoll Tulip Table is softened with vintage dining chairs, a natural jute rug from The Conran Shop and organically shaped ceramics by Wonki Ware.
'Neutral doesn't have to be cold and soulless, warm tones can be incredibly comfortable and cocooning.'
This scandi-led design scheme by stylist, Marie Nichols, provides a neutral base for the playful Ingrid Pumpkin roller blinds and bucolic view beyond. A bold choice for full height windows, but large rooms with plenty of natural light make the perfect backdrop for swathes of pattern – the surroundings are kept clean here with white walls and graphite floors.
'Roller blinds are a great functional window dressing but their allure doesn’t have to end with practicality. Soft rollers really up the style anti, adding a sophisticated feel to a scheme,' says Marie.
The interlocking geometric print on the Ingrid Pumpkin blinds are reminiscent of on-trend mid-century patterns, complemented here with iconic mid-century silhouettes like the Carl Hansen & Søn CH20 Elbow Chairs and Louis Poulsen’s PH 5 Pendant Lamp. Rich mauves are picked up in the Stelton candleholders (find similar at Nordic Nest) and red leaf centrepiece to balance the neutral table set up.
This cosy bedroom look is achieved by layering tactile fabrics over a natural base. 'Use window dressing to add in textures to bring warmth to your scheme,' says Marie.
A soft colour palette in shades of peach and purple are offset with natural materials – fluffy pampas grass being a perennial styling favourite – with the soft geometric pattern on the Matchstick Mono roller blinds matched in the Urban Outfitters checked duvet cover.
Layers of throws and pillows in contrasting colourways complete this soft and comforting bedroom look.
